SAFETY TIPS WHEN USING KENYACLASSIFIED

It's a good idea to take precautions when using Kenyaclassified to buy and sell your items or services. There's always some risk involved in transferring goods and payments between two parties. Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind. These tips are not designed to scare you, but to encourage you to be smart, use common sense, and have fun.
• Know who you're dealing with. Ask for personal information that you can verify. For example, a home or work phone number can be verified through directory assistance or by simply calling back to make sure that the number is valid. Always try to speak on the phone first. You can also ask the seller or buyer for a reference -- someone else who can tell you about their experiences with the buyer or seller.
• Keep all records of correspondence. Keep all email, notes, shipping papers, and payment information. Be sure to print a copy of the ad. This is your responsibility. Kenyaclassified does not provide user information or copies of old listings.
• Ask to see the item before you agree to buy. If possible, ask to see the item before you make a final decision. This will help you verify the authenticity and condition of the item and the legitimacy of the seller.
• Protect yourself. Remember that anything you put in the buyer contact information section will appear on your ad and be visible to everyone. If you include a street address, it will be on your ad. You must include some contact information, but err on the side of caution.
• Let someone know your plans. There may be a need for buyers and sellers to meet face-to-face to show the item or service for sale. Remember you are meeting a stranger. Use common sense and good judgment. When meeting face-to-face, let others know your plans. Give them the address, phone number, and name of the person you are meeting. If possible, bring a friend with you or try to meet in a public place.
• Use common sense. If an item seems too good to be true, it probably is. Do some research. For example, look at other classifieds ads or auction listings to learn the going rate for the specific items or services that interest you. Kenyaclassified does not endorse or verify the information contained in any ad. Your best protection is to use common sense.
• Evaluate your payment options. A deal should only proceed if the buyer and seller are comfortable with each other and the type of payment. The buyer and seller should also agree on a return policy, if any, in case the buyer is not happy with the item. If an item is expensive, don't send unsecured money or merchandise. Here are some payment and delivery options which can help protect the buyer and the seller:
o Escrow services. Escrow protects both parties from credit card fraud, offers sellers protection from a claim of non-delivery of item, and gives the buyer an opportunity to inspect the product and return it if it is damaged or not as described. Before selecting an escrow service, check with the Better Business Bureau to make sure the business has a satisfactory record.
o COD. Cash on delivery ties the payment to the delivery of the merchandise.
o Person-to-person payment services. Person-to-person payments can take place online or with a check. There are built-in protections for both parties with these services. These protections may vary depending on the service. Reminder: Use of Kenyaclassified is entirely at your own risk.

How to Avoid Fraud When Buying

Unfortunately, there isn't a single, surefire way to identify fraudulent sellers. However, we've listed some of the warning signs of fraud below. Please note that none of these signs is a definitive indicator of a fraudulent seller. They are only factors to help you identify high-risk transactions. Likewise, there is no guarantee that if a seller does not meet any of these criteria, it's a legitimate seller. If you are suspicious, it's a good idea to do some research.

Country of Origin:
Sellers that request money to be wired to Romania, Ukraine, Macedonia, Belarus, Pakistan, Russia, Lithuania, Egypt, Nigeria, Colombia, Malaysia, or Indonesia tend to have a very high incidence of fraud. Unless you have a lot experience with international orders, you may want to decline to send money to these countries.

High-End Merchandise Items:
Be wary of high-end electronics equipment, such as computers, and high-end automobiles -- especially if they are offered at less than market value.

"It's Now or Never":
Beware of pressure for an immediate response or frantic claims of limited availability.

Email Address:
In many fraudulent orders, the seller's email address is provided by a free email service, which is often relatively untraceable.

No Verifiable Information:
Be wary of sellers that do not provide information that can be verified, such as an address or home or work phone number.
An order that meets one of the above criteria is not necessarily fraudulent. However, if an order has multiple warning signs, you should investigate it carefully. As a general rule, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Country of Origin:
Buyers from Romania, Macedonia, Belarus, Pakistan, Russia, Lithuania, Egypt, Nigeria, Colombia, Malaysia, and Indonesia tend to have a very high incidence of fraud and often have unverifiable addresses. Unless you have a lot experience with international orders, you may want to decline to sell to these countries, even if the buyer offers to use a Kenyan cashier's check.

Untraceable Email Address: In many fraudulent orders, the customer's email address is provided by a free email service, which is often relatively untraceable.

Expensive Items: Be wary when selling automobiles or high-end electronics equipment, such as computers.
An order that meets one of the above criteria is not necessarily fraudulent. However, if an order has multiple warning signs, you should investigate it carefully. As a general rule, you should never sell a valuable item unless you can verify the information.
